Volunteering as a STEM Racing judge enables you to share your knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm with the next generation. 
As part of the world’s most exciting education competition, you will be able to see first-hand the incredible skills and talent of the young people taking part in STEM Racing - and make a powerful difference in the careers they go on to pursue. ​

How does it work?

Each STEM Racing event, whether regional, national, or global, has a judging panel. These judges assess each team across five key categories according to a scorecard, before providing feedback on what they did well, and where they could possibly do better.

The top team from each category wins an award, and the very best teams, who achieve the highest scores across the board, receive the opportunity to progress to the next level of the competition.

STEM Racing encompasses an incredible array of skills, so, whether you’re an engineer or a marketeer, there is a category for which your
experience will be perfectly suited. 

Events: Where? When?

​The STEM Racing UK season begins in September each year, with events taking place over the following months. 

The full UK event calendar can be found here, and you can attend as many of these as you like; whether that’s one, two, or all!

• Regional Finals: In these localised events, teams from across a region compete against one another.
  
  Judging time requirement: 1 day.
  
  
• STEM Racing National Finals: The top teams take from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete in this event.
  
  Judging time requirement: 1-2 days.
  
  
• Aramco STEM Racing World Finals: This event sees the world’s brightest minds compete. Held alongside an international F1 Grand Prix, this fantastic event has taken place in a number of incredible locations, including Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

  ​Judging time requirement: 3 days.

Which category is right for you?

• ​Design & Engineering: Do you use CAD/CAM software? Are you an engineer? If so, this is the category for you! With each team creating a Design &Engineering portfolio, you will assess the document to learn about their innovations.
  
  
• Enterprise: Business minded? Marketing savvy? Enterprise is where you’d be a great fit. Each team creates an Enterprise Portfolio, and you’ll be looking through to see whether they have grown their business and brand.
  
  
• Project Management: If you’re brilliant at taking concepts to completion, then this is the role for you. Each team creates a Project Management portfolio which details their work, so you’ll be able to see if they’re RACI matrix pros.
  
  
• Brand Identity: Passionate about branding? You’ll love this role. With a requirement to build a show-stopping pit display, you’ll be looking to see how creative a team has been with their space.
  ​
• Verbal Presentation: If you’re a confident orator with experience in public speaking, you’ll enjoy hearing our students discuss their work in a 10-minute verbal presentation. You’ll be assessing their use of visual cues and ability to engage.​
